Yahoo movies has some info and what I think is the first pic from the Coen Bro. remake of the John Wayne Classic True Grit. I gotta say I’m still a bit baffled about why you’d remake the movie. Granted it’s gonna be a bit more based on the novel, Jeff Bridges has never had a bad performance, and I’m on board for anything Joel and Ethan do, but it’s dangerous to remake “classic” movies. I got no problem with revamping old flicks that weren’t really very good (Ocean’s 11 for example), but this is Rooster Cogburn we’re talkin about here.
I sure hope this is a home run, cause anything less is gonna questionable.

Okay, this is a bit late in coming (like a month) but if you haven’t had the occassion to checkout friend of the site PrimeOp’s site Scroll Boss, nows the time to do it. Outside of being a great retro gaming site, it features a lot of Jim’s fantastic sprite artwork, and is the home of PrimeOp’s latest bit of awesomness, an old school fighting game “Vs” and “Group” graphic generator! Basically, you can create graphics that feature matchups of some of the coolest sprites from various games (and some not from games!) and the backgrounds from various games. You really need to see it to understand it. Just be prepared to lose some hours checking out all the matchup possabilities. Catwoman vs. Chun Li? Yes, please. Anyway, you can start playing with the awesome here

Isaiah Mustafa, better known as the “Old Spice Guy” currently featured in a number of (hilarious!) Old Spice commercials, is apparantly campaigning for the role of Luke Cage. I for one love the idea. Cage is a great mix of bad@$$edness, comedy, and 70′s era nostalgia. Mustafa hits all that for me. Now granted we’re talking a dude that captures your attention for 30 seconds at a time so who knows if he can actually act or not. He is a bit on the small side. And there is definately the danger of going way too campy, but honestly he’s the first candidate I’ve heard that isn’t over 40 that excites me.

Yeah, Jeff Bridges . . . you complete me. Seriously, has there been a better, more underapreciated actor inthe last 20 years? Okay, maybe Robert Duvall. But seriously, if there was anyone in the world I could switch places with, man it’d be tough not to want to be The Dude.

To say my antcipation for this movie grows is doubtless. If this movie sucks, I just may cry. I don’t remember looking this forward to a movie in a long time. On a side note, good to see Richard Dreyfuss finding work. He just sort of disappeared for a bit. Speaking of . . . anyone seen Gene Hackman?

It was bound to happen eventually. The world of dance and the world of superheroes have been destined to meet since Marvel introduced Dazzler in an attempt to cash in on the Disco phenomenon. Finally, that destiny has been realized . . .

Seriously, I’m not sure if this concept can “work”, but I’ll give whoever made the trailer credit, I’m intrigued. I’ll check out hulu when this comes out.

This may very well be the best cast ever assembled. John Malkovitch as a nutjob? Check. Morgan Freeman as a lecherous old coot? Check. Mary Louise-Parker looking adorable? Check. Bruce Willis in an action-comedy role? Check. Dame Helen Mirren as a gun toting assassin? Wait, what?

Based on this trailer, I’m gonna feel pretty confident in saying this may be the single greatest cultural acheivement humanity will produce in the next 50 years. And Helen Mirren just possibly became the coolest woman on the planet.

Ah, the glorious weirdness of Prince and 1989. Makes me wish for simpler times of day-glo, gals with bangs, and hammer pants.
